A wonderful intelligent, engaging, kind man with a tireless curious mind. My English teacher at St. George&#8217;s School, with whom I sailed my first Bermuda Race. He was probably responsible for my enduring interest in photography. He forced me into an orderly mind.<\/p>\n<div><span style=\"white-space: pre;\"> <\/span>Norrie wrote a book titled &#8220;Addicted to Sail&#8221; a charming little book in which his enthusiasm pours out on the reader.<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"white-space: pre;\"> <\/span>At school his apartment was always full of students, Norrie and his wife never seemed to mind. They made students feel welcome and cared for. To this day I do not know how they managed.\u00a0English class was always stories of sailing which kept us captivated.<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"white-space: pre;\"> <\/span>When Sail Magazine was started almost every cover the first ten years were photographs taken by Norrie.<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"white-space: pre;\"> <\/span>Norrie held a Phd in English Literature and his swimming records stood for years at Yale.<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"white-space: pre;\"> <\/span><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_jTb_cRUMExg\/SUrlAHMKWTI\/AAAAAAAABBk\/muk0WofICww\/s1600-h\/ndh+1983.jpg\" onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5281285303138146610\" style=\"float: left; margin: 0 10px 10px 0; cursor: hand; width: 215px; height: 320px;\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_jTb_cRUMExg\/SUrlAHMKWTI\/AAAAAAAABBk\/muk0WofICww\/s320\/ndh+1983.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Norrie Hoyt, teacher, shipmate, mentor.
