to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newportcongregationalchurch.org\">Congregational church<\/a> was nearly twenty years ago. The fact that the interior had not deteriorated more is a blessing. Personally I like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.phillipscollection.org\/research\/american_art\/bios\/lafarge-bio.htm\">John La Farge&#8217;s<\/a> stained glass better than Tiffany. The relationship between Tiffany and La Farge was tempestuous at best.<\/p>\n<p>The Prayer Rug was the basis for the decoration. The idea was to avoid any idolatry, so geometric aesthetism was the solution. This is I believe the only complete work of both the stain glass and frescos by John La Farge anywhere.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.salve.edu\/academics\/faculty\/facultyDetails.aspx?Channel=%2FChannels%2FSite+Wide+Content&amp;WorkflowItemID=abe5b435-9cc8-4c40-8d54-8ec7369d51b5\">James Yarnell<\/a>, has written the definitive work on John La Farge.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My last visit to the Congregational church was nearly twenty years ago.
