Per the contract, however, the America&#8217;s Cup Organizing Committee must merely &#8220;endeavor&#8221; to meet its fund-raising goal.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve shouted publicly to the rooftops how ashamed I am that I see that language&#8221; \u2013 the vagueness about &#8220;endeavor&#8221; \u2014 &#8220;and not reading into what it said. I was fucking played. All the members of the Board of Supervisors were fucking played,&#8221;\u00a0<a title=\"John Avalos\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sfweekly.com\/related\/to\/John+Avalos\/\" data-omni-track=\"Inform-&gt;Click|keyword[John+Avalos]\">Supervisor John Avalos<\/a>\u00a0told\u00a0<i>SF Weekly<\/i>\u00a0on Feb. 20.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s how\u00a0<i>Le Monde<\/i>\u00a0translated that:<\/p>\n<p><i>&#8220;J&#8217;avais publiquement cri\u00e9 au scandale pour dire mon opposition \u00e0 l&#8217;emploi du terme bancal &#8216;s&#8217;efforceront,&#8217; et je peux aujourd&#8217;hui dire que tous les membres de l&#8217;assembl\u00e9e se sont fait foutrement avoir,&#8221; a-t-il d\u00e9clar\u00e9 le 20 f\u00e9vrier dans l&#8217;hebdomadaire<\/i>\u00a0SF Weekly<i>.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>This is a solid \u2014 but not exact \u2013 reconstruction of Avalos&#8217; lament (&#8220;I shouted publicly to the rooftops&#8221; wouldn&#8217;t mean the same thing to a French speaker).
