THE END OF KODACHROME, the start of the sydney-hobart race

You will no longer be able to have kodachrome developed as of December 30. It has no been available for sale for a time now.  Film for cameras developed over 150 years. Digital photography is in it’s infancy. It is tremendously convenient, but still has a long way to go. At the rate of changes in today’s world it will not take as long to reach parity between film and digital. Some will argue that this cannot happen given the inherent differences. I believe the demand for better images will require the improvements necessary.

The Sydney to Hobart race is off, facing a couple of “southerly busters”.

ALONE

The first photo, of the man sitting in the garden of the Louvre, feeding the birds, staring blankly into the distance; looking to us ultimately alone, despite the fact that perhaps thousands of voices pass him every day. It made me reflect on each of us alone with our thoughts; no matter our circumstances, we are ultimately alone. We can never fully express our thoughts to others, they are far to complex and far too simple.

Behind each of these faces there is a story, an entire life, with all that represents. We assume that we can read their faces and divine their stories; but can we really?

It is a depressing thought, apologies, but no matter how successful and secure we are, we are in the end all the same; alone with our thoughts.

Remember others and their secret suffering, Sometimes a kind word or thought is enough to soften those “slings and arrows of outrageous fortune”

FAVORITE PHOTOS

I have had a camera in my hands for more than 50 years; not all the time but a camera was never far away. I still remember each photograph that got away; the ones I knew I should take but for one reason or another it just did not happen, still harbouring regret.

The consequence of this is an archive that spans this time. There are photographs of my family, which are naturally personal. Every photograph is my point of view; how and what I see in the world. There are moments when I am overwhelmed by what surrounds me.

I expect what will interest most of you will be my photographs of sailing. I have used many of these pictures in my blog to tell a story. In the coming weeks, perhaps months I hope to construct another site where I will post many on my photographs for sale.

PANORAMAS

This is really a test. I have been working on panoramas recently. Each photo is a very large file(a half million megabits) and I never even considered trying to post them to my blog. These photos are considerably reduced. You should be able to click on them and have them enlarge.
Each photograph is comprised of a dozen or more photos that are recomposed (stitched) to make a single wide photo.
