How does one reduce 99 days of travel including the America’s Cup in San Francisco, to a few photographs? It was there and back, east to west and west to east. We still saw so little, yet so much. Each photo represents a story of it’s own.

I remain amazed at the ability of Oracle to make the necessary adjustments and win the America’s Cup. I am driving back to Newport, but it no longer feels like I am driving home. My grandchildren are behind me in California.

After Bryce Canyon, how could anything nature provided measure up? In the last 48 hours Nature has not ceased to offer up remarkable examples of her handiwork.

We’re here, after 5000 miles in the car, having seen some of the most amazing things on earth, we have arrived at our destination:Los Angeles. LaLa land. We went to The Grove with the grandchildren. I will confess I was apprehensive, because I keep a bad memory from the last time I was there. Being there this time with grandchildren clearly changed the focus for me. They saw the best parts of it completely unaware of the rest.

The paparazzi were there in numbers. I suppose because the TV show “Extra” is filmed there daily. On occasion I have been asked if I were a paparazzi; when the answer was no the people were clearly disappointed. LA is the best people watching place on earth.

FELIX

Up early for the final leg of our journey. A brief detour to Redlands to see the Albert Burrage house. I have been wondering about this house for years. Burrage was from Boston and owned the elegant motor yacht “Aztec”yet built this house.

The changes in the desert were evident as this is the first time we see Saguaro.

Stopping for gas the sight of a man on a tricycle undressing, oh well it was 106 degrees.

Finally Felix our grandson, the reason for our trip.
