TRAVEL THROUGH TIME

Summer is quickly coming to a close. Children are in many cases back to school. Labor Day is a week away. The age old ritual of asking what you did last summer is here.

Here is what I did last summer:

CARINA FINISHES THE SYDNEY-HOBART

“Carina” finished 2011 by competing in the Sydney-Hobart race; a journey that started in June with the transatlantic race to England, the Fastnet race; and the kids sailing the boat to Australia in time for the race.

Naturally when I pause to think of the wonderful adventure 2011 brought to them I reflect on my own small adventures. The Transtalantic race aboard “Snow Lion”. I have sailed with most of the crew on both boats for great distances and keep many fond memories.

FIRST SAIL

Lots of new things to look at and check on “Snow Lion” before we leave for the transatlantic race in june. This was our first opportunity, the mast was stepped on friday and the boat loaded yesterday. A new mast track, two new spinnakers and the usual number of projects for any boat going into the water for the first time after a winter of refitting.

A nice 15 knot northerly, offered us flat water for our first outing. Brilliant sun made us feel like spring was really here.
