This event is in court. The skipper of the yacht is contending that he was in the right.

Thanks once again to sailing anarchy for drawing attention to this video. I have long been a fan of the scow. I have sailed E scows and learned a great deal doing so. I have never sailed the monster A class.








BLOCK ISLAND RACE WEEK 2013 starts this weekend. It is always a very pleasant event. Block Island is a quiet beautiful island, with the exception of the event tent, where one can go if they want to make noise.
I have added the interpretation of rule 55, I suspect this was an unintended consequence, but there it is.




We forget quickly how our reference of the shape of speed under sail was shaped. Last night Rich Wilson (see yesterday’s post) referred to the fact that his boat was 30% slower than the boat that ultimately won the Vendee Globe Race.

“Mabel” reflects a period in time when racing catboats was at fever pitch.
“Shonia” belonged to Charlie Barr, she looks pretty racy.
“Shamrock” tha America’s Cup challenger in 1903, The crew lived aboard, she was the best guess at what would be fast enough to win the Cup.
