THE MOON, the cold orb that lights the night.

ADMIRAL’S CUP

I sailed four admiral’s cups, which in those days included the channel race and the fastnet race. Those memories remain some if the highlights of my sailing.

If you follow sailing, then you know that the start of the mini transat was delayed and the first leg abandoned. I have listened and read many peoples opinions about how to grow sailing. I think the essence of the argument misses the point.

COLOR OR BLACK AND WHITE?

Today’s rain brought warm temperatures, postponing the inevitable; it will get cold. This is the same image one in color one in black ad white.

Which one do you like best?

1966 BERMUDA RACE

The 1966 Bermuda Race was my first. The boat(“Gunievere” belonging to George Moffett, designed by Alan Guerney) on which I sailed is shown very briefly tied to the dock at Port O’ Call (now Bannister’s Wharf). We were never out of sight of our nearest competitor: Thor Ramsing’s “Solution”; finishing within a minute of one another.
I was working for John Nicholas Brown on his boat in Newport. He had given me the time off to do the race. I always considered that it was very generous of him because he did not use his own boat while I was away. I sailed another Bermuda race with “Guinevere” and a Transatlantic Race.

NO SOLAR ECLIPSE HERE

The Solar Eclipse was supposed to happen at sunrise. I laid out my gear; got up early and arrived at the spot I had chosen and waited for the sun. I never saw the sun that day as it was heavily overcast; however the high tide and an offshore storm coupled with an offshore breeze brought out all the surfers.

GATEWAY TO HEAVEN

Everyone deals with death in their own way. Halloween has become candy and costumes for children and for others it is all hollows eve, the night before all saint’s day. The customs within our own culture are so varied that I could not begin to list them. Similarly, the means of expression is so varied. Cemeteries are the end or beginning of the journey of life. The recognition of that life is the headstone and the epitaph on it.
