I remember this day vividly, but had not seen the pictures until now. I’m driving the RC rib in a few of the pictures. Upon arriving at the scene, it looked like the boat had exploded into splinters.
I feel very fortunate to have had a NY 30 in my family. Blue Moon (#18) came to us in 1961 or so. She was wrecked in the hurricane of 1962 on the beach in front of our house in Bristol. She was repaired at the Common Fence Point Boat Yard. I believe she is in the Bristol museum now. What a horrific set of photos! They made me feel a little more than a little sick. It is hard to believe Amorita could come back from that. Bill Johnson
I remember this day vividly as well. I was racing 12 meter Gleam and could believe my eyes or words when I reported to the captain that there was a boat under water ahead of us! What a sad day! I am so glad they have been able to revive her and can’t wait to see her on the water again!
