The 11th anniversary of 9/11. I sense that people have moved on; not those who were directly affected. That said, this event changed our culture and the psyche of the american people forever.
So many people have a story connected to this event, all of us remember where we were that day.
I went to the Memorial 2 weeks ago. Beautiful and haunting. I encourage everyone to visit and remember. It is so important not to forget.
Some of us would rather forget but never can. It always interests me that no one has ever really come and documented the experiences of survivors, well, at least none of my fellows and I have ever shared with each other that anyone has. I happened into being asked to participate in an oral history/memorial project that Iowa State did in of all things their dance department (I think they must’ve choreographed dance around our interviews), though I never actually saw the completed work. But they couldn’t have had more than a small handfull of interviews. I wonder if, eleven years later, I could remember everything I told them…I suspect that for all the other things I don’t remember anymore, this one I could with almost equal clarity.
I wonder though, if somewhere down the road, all of our experiences will just disappear because they were never captured and the only thing that people will remember is the acts of observance themselves each year?
