Fun. I remember sailing on a Great South Bay Scooter a couple of years after WWII.
They were sort of like a duck boat, cockpit with deck all around and steel runners underneath.
Steered by means of the jib which was on a boom, pivoted in the middle. I think they had been used in the old days to get to and from the sand islands on the south side of the bay. They would float if the ice gave way. That was the theory, anyway.
