Humans have always seemed to been drawn to high ground. Even the children’s game “King of the Mountain”. was a way of teaching the philosophy. It is a phrase in language. A military tactical advantage. A phrase that means high moral standard. The words high ground have significance in all cultures and languages.
these are signs in Germany and the Alsace/Lorraine region of France. For me, reminiscent of those in Austria. Of course, this region was annexed back and forth throughout history, so it should be no surprise of the influences of each culture.
The tower of the sacre coeur remained closed today; guarded by the army. tensions have not abated in Paris.
While it was Lord Nelson who is credited with the words: ” Keep calm and carry on”. It is the French people today after the events of yesterday.
In the light of these events it is hard to stay excited about the volvo ocean race, the america’s cup, or the bcn. Lord knows sailing has been my mistress for half a century now, but the world seems so overwhelming some days.
I set out today looking for the building in the final photographs. I had seen it some years ago, but could not remember where. Not only did I find it, but near another wonderful place: “le train bleu”
If there is a common theme here, it seems to be a mouthful.
Weather has a profound effect on everything we do. the way we dress, what we decide to do in a day. Where is decide to do it. How we decide to do it. Whether we like it or not weather is a primary concern.
Walking in Paris today in the rain changed everything. I was more protective of my camera, which in turn changed the way I took photographs; or if I would even choose to take one.
The weather cleared for a time, so I thought I would risk waiting in line and climbing (386 steps up and then down) the tower of Notre Dame. Fortune smiled on me and the day cleared even more and I was able to see for the first time the view and the fantasy of the stone carvers of Notre Dame. It is not a stretch get from these gargoyles to fairy tales. And what must have gone through the minds of the men carving these beasts. What a treat.
