Where is the sport of sailing going?

Continuing the thread of what it is that sailors want from sailing; a recent poll conducted by scuttlebutt shows that people would like the return of reaching legs to race courses. Is it the desire for change? Or is it a genuine missing ingredient? Certainly in my earlier days of racing an olympic course or a modified version was standard. The America’s Cup similarly had two reaching legs.

There is no question that leeward legs offer more tactical opportunities, but evidently people find something lacking in windward-leeward courses. (particularly when it may be three times around; my eyes glaze over losing count)
